In 1953, a young World War II veteran and his father, a
construction foreman, tore down a grove of orange trees on a North San Gabriel
lot just a block from a new elementary school.
Their goal: to build a rock-solid
house for a young veteran, his wife, and their newborn son.
Using a GI loan and excellent materials, the two men and
a contractor built a home for the young family that has been filled with great
memories for 57 years and has truly stood the test of time. From the original wood floors, to the tile
that was scrubbed with a toothbrush and still looks new, to the unique storage
areas built into the walls, this home is a marvel of maintenance and
construction. Remodeling projects over
the years have included a third bedroom, a kitchen with a Sub Zero
refrigerator, and a large family room – all built with the same exacting
standards as the original home.
Framed by a stunning oak tree, this quintessential
California home also features a large backyard, two bathrooms, two fireplaces,
central air and heat, a laundry room and lush landscaping. The elementary school just a block away is
now considered one of the finest in the area, part of the sought-after Temple
City School District.
The owners’ original blueprints and several pictures of
the home as it looked over the years have been preserved and will be given to
the fortunate new owner. After more than
five decades of a one-family ownership, this high quality home is in move-in
ready condition for a new family to create memories of its own.
